South Otselic United Methodist Church
The mission of the South Otselic United Methodist Church is to worship God, serve Him, each other and our community, and to share His love in words and actions while helping inspire and nurture followers of Christ Welcome to our church website. Please take a moment to browse and see what's happening with us and what we offer. We'd also like to take this opportunity to invite you to one of our weekly services. And of course, feel free to contact our Pastor or Ministry Leaders.
A short history of how our church came into being is as follows. The first Methodist preaching was heard in South Otselic around 1840. Services were held once each second week of the month in any suitable place that could be found. There was no church building of any kind in South Otselic until the erection of a Baptist Church in 1844. For a time the Methodist Society held its meetings here at 5 PM on Sundays. This continued until about 1861 when the South Otselic congregation began meeting in the school house. A resolution was passed by the Quarterly Conference to empower a committee to consider and purchase a suitable place for the erection of a Methodist Church. The committee eventually purchased the property known as the Ford Hotel. The South Otselic United Methodist Church was organized on July 3, 1865 and the following year the new church building was erected. The parsonage was built in 1910.
We truly hope that you and your family will have a warm and spirit-filled experience with us as we worship and fellowship together at our services, events, and ministries.
